The study of the marine pelagic ecosystem off the west and south coast of southern Africa (Benguela ecosystem). Using computer models to study and understand the interplay between the physical environment and living organisms in determining nutrient cycles and productivity in marine ecosystems, including the roles of microbes, plants and animals.
